At least 136 attacks on Sudan's health care system have been documented by Insecurity Insight between 01 January-11 July. Health facilities have been damaged in shelling and arson attacks, vital medical supplies looted, health workers killed, injured and arrested, and patients deliberately obstructed from accessing health care. Documented incidents 15 July 2023: In Omdurman city, Khartoum state, a RSF drone struck the emergency complex of the Military Medical Corps Hospital, killing five patients and injuring 22 others, mostly civilians. Ousted president Omar Al Bashir is believed to be located inside the hospital. Sources: Khaama Press, New Age, Personal Communication, Radio Dabanga and Xinhua 15-16 July 2023: In Kass town, South Darfur state, the RSF raided three health facilities, and the offices of a Swiss organisation, as part of a wider attack on the area. Two male IDPs were killed, nine injured, and three more, including two women, were abducted. Many IDPs from seven nearby camps fled the area and sought shelter inside the town. Source: Radio Dabanga 15-16 July 2023: Near Tutti Island, Khartoum state, RSF mortars and drones struck and damaged the Medical Corps area of the SAF. Source: Sudan War Monitor 16 July 2023: In Omdurman city, Khartoum state, the RSF struck the Aliaa Specialised Hospital, located at the premises of the Military Hospital, with artillery shells, causing significant damage to the dialysis centre, intensive care unit, and operating rooms. Three patients got injured. Source: Radio Dabanga and Sudan War Monitor 20 July 2023: In Khartoum, after arguing about the reasons for MSF’s presence, unidentified armed men beat and whipped an MSF team — composed of four MSF staff, four truck drivers, and 10 daily workers — who were trying to deliver supplies to the Turkish Hospital, where MSF provides health care. The perpetrators detained the driver, threatening his life before releasing him, and stole the vehicle. MSF warned that it will not be able to continue its operations, if minimum safety guarantees are not met.
