Mozambique: flooding in Maputo province and city
Heavy rains between 7–11 February 2023 resulted in large-scale flooding across the southern region of Mozambique, particularly Maputo province and city

Key findings:
  • 43,000 people are affected, including over 16,500 displaced people.
     
  • As at 18 February, the flood had damaged 8,600 houses across the affected areas.
     
  • Power outages and gridlocked roads are challenging the access of the affected people to assistance.
     
  • There is an increased risk of cholera outbreak.
     
  • Further flooding is expected as a result of tropical cyclone Freddy .
