Residents Injured In Stampede As Terrorists Arrive In Kebbi Community

Residents of a village in Zamfara abandoned their homes in panic as terrorists on motorcycles approached their community. In the resulting stampede to get away, people were injured, witnesses said.
The group of raiders arrived in Shengel community, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State in Northwest Nigeria on Dec 15, HumAngle learned.
The gang passed through Shengel after rustling cattle from the neighbouring villages between 2:30 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. Locals were in mosques for their afternoon (Zuhr) prayer when the terrorists approached. This caused a stampede with people sustaining a variety of injuries. It is not thought that anyone is in a critical condition after the incident.
On this occasion, it is understood the terror group neither fired nor attempted to kidnap anyone.
Hamidu Mamman, a farmer, was at Shegel to visit his farm and narrowly escaped notice by the gang as they entered the village.
“We saw the armed group on about 20 motorcycles moving into Shengel village with rustled cows,” he said.
“As I speak, hundreds of women and children, including the old people are still trekking down to Ribah and Tadurga while others to Maga metropolis, using commercial vehicles,” Ayuba Ilu, a vigilante member, added.
The armed group headed to Akawo forest through ‘Yarkuka village of Bukuyum LGA, Zamfara state, HumAngle learned. This is an area ravaged by terror activities. This medium has reported how its locals are forced to labour in farms owned by terrorists under harsh conditions.
Shengel and Yarkuka villages share a common forest area that stretches between Kebbi and Zamfara states.
When contacted for comment, Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, said he would confirm the incident and get back to this reporter. But he did not as at the time this report was filed.
The arrival of terrorists on motorbikes forced residents to abandon their homes in Shengel, Danko-Wasagu LGA of the northwestern state. Those fleeing sustained various degrees of injuries.
